A project for QED publishing and Quarto Kids. The Little Coders series was my first (of many, I hope) children's book series that I illustrated. The books were aimed at Pre-K children to teach them how to code Scratch.
My basic approach to this project involved sketching around a loose layout, bringing the sketches to vector in Illustrator, and adding texture in Photoshop.
I needed to consider the informational aspect of the design. The book has large amounts of copy and images that are crucial to the learning portion of the series. The layouts have ample space that use a logical flow to the instructions while still being fun for the viewer.
I also made custom logos, typography, and covers that give the series a fun, consistent style.
